WESSA Durban Branch & eThekwini Metro Parks Tree Labelling Project

28 September, 2013 starting at 09h00

Dear WESSA members, friends and supporters

On Saturday, 28th September, three city parks (Umbilo, Bulwer and Sutton) will become part of an ongoing project to label trees in public spaces. This initiative is a joint WESSA Durban Branch and eThekwini Metro Parks & Natural Resources Department project. It aims to raise awareness of Durban’s wonderful natural resources and to help people distinguish indigenous and exotic trees.

These are community events and need different levels of involvement, such as specialists to ensure that the correct identification is made; local residents armed with step ladders and screwdrivers to attach the labels; and tree champions to ensure ongoing implementation of the project. All three events will conclude at 11h30. Thereafter, participants are asked to convene at Umbilo Park by 12h00 where refreshments will be provided by the eThekwini Parks Department.

To join any of the following events, go to:

·         BULWER PARK: Cnr of Lena Ahrens (Manning) & Helen Joseph (Davenport) Glenwood

·         SUTTON PARK: Lillian Ngoyi (Windermere) Morningside opp. Alliance Française

·         UMBILO PARK: Feilden Drive Umbilo
