ROOSFONTEIN D'MOSS WALK SUNDAY 24 MAY 2015

ROOSFONTEIN walk  SUNDAY 24 MAY 2015
Our D’MOSS walk on Sunday 24 May will be in Roosfontein. We meet at the Westville prison where there is ample safe parking and set off into the reserve at 9 o’clock. Roosfontein is a 150 ha Nature Reserve situated between the Pavilion Mall/Westville Hospital and Malvern/Queensburgh old main line area. On the Queensburgh side the Umbilo River flows through the valley on its way passed the  Umbilo Park to the bay. Most of the trail takes us through grassland habitat.

Site visit to check on the invasive alien plant clearing work done by the Working for Ecosystems teams.  These SMME contractors are contracted through WESSA who act as the implementing agent.  The eThekwini's Environmental Planning Climate Change Protection Dept acts as the cit't custodian of the D'MOSS areas.

Site visit continued!

How to get to the prison:-
Turn off Harry-Gwala Road into Spine Road. Harry-Gwala goes down the hill from the Pavilion, passed the Westville Hospital and the driving range. Turn right at the robot into Spine Road. Or you can drive towards the Pavilion up along Booth Road (the extension of Franscois Road passed the university) and just before the hospital turn left at the robot into Spine Road. The prison is at the end of Spine Road.
Motor cars will be safe in the parking area to the left of the gates.
The “Friends of the D’MOSS walkers” will have juice and biscuits, and perhaps tea, ready after the walk.  Sturdy shoes, sunblock, hats, and water are recommended.
